The Digital Story Telling Project
For our assignment, my friend Naz and I produced a 2-minute fictional story video. The plot revolved around two princes where one was brave but foolish while the other was smart but cowardly. Their father, the king, ordered them to go defeat a dragon. In the end, they learned some other things.
We began with a joint story writing session. After, we narrated and recorded the audio. Naz took the role of the narrator and I voiced the princes. To improve the cleanliness of our audio, we used Cleanvoice AI which is effective in background noise reduction.
With Storyboard That, we created 34 different scenes which we termed visually as parts to a story. Using audio from Pixabay, we searched for sound effects and music, especially medieval and fairy tale themed music to add more soul into the video. Kdenlive was used to combine the audio recording with sound effects, music, and images to complete the video project.
I feel this type of project would be highly beneficial in the area of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). It enabled us to focus on improving our writing, audiation, and active listening skills. The need to draft a video in English brought forth consideration to precise words, tone, and pacing.
To summarize, this was not only a creative challenge, but also an opportunity to refine one’s language skills through narrative, digital media, and collaboration. And we really enjoyed every aspect of it.
