AI-Enhaced Corpus-Based Activity Desingn; More Engaging Clasrooms!

Hey guys!        We are back with some amazing useful ideas for your classroom. For our Current Issues in Teaching course, our group was asked to create an AI-enhanced corpus-based activity and a lesson plan using the ASSURE model that explains how we are going to apply it. Our target was 10th-grade Turkish EFL students (B1 level), and we chose the grammar point “must vs have to (theme 1)" from the given book.      We designed a colourful worksheet consists of six activities that guides students step-by-step through SKELL . The worksheet teaches “must” and “have to”, asks students to observe real sentences, match functions, sort examples, and finally complete a pattern-discovery table using line numbers as evidence. The last two activities introduce ChatGPT : students paste real sentences to get explanations and then write their own school-life sentences and receive instant AI feedback. The design is clear, visu...

Farewell, Friends and Followers!

Image
As I come to the end of this blogging journey, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what we have done together. Over the past few months, I have shared different classroom tasks and projects that have opened my mind to new ways of learning and teaching. Each experience has shown me how creative and exciting language learning can be when supported by the right tools and ideas. Created by ChatGPT     From digital storytelling to creating podcasts, working on collaborative writing tasks, and designing infographics; every task has helped me see language learning in a different perspective. These activities were not just about completing an assignment. They allowed us to think critically, use language in real situations, and create things with language.     What made these projects special was how they combined technology, creativity, and communication. For example, while making a podcast, we practiced speaking and listening skills in a fun and ...

Exploring Some Magical Tools To Have a Chat With a Magical Author

Image
This week, I have explored the Magic School AI  tools as a part of my Instructional Technology assignment. And I loved this tool, and I also explored the teacher tools. Magic School AI  provides dozens of very helpful tools for not only teachers but also the learners and I think in every school we should benefit from these tools to enhance our students' education.      In this assignment I have used Character Chatbot tool to have a conversation with J.K. Rowling , my favorite author. I picked an interesting topic; “Magic and Human Psychology.” I was really surprised how the tool really felt like I am talking to the authors herself. Chatbot often overcame my really hard questions and gave a lot of quotes from Harry Potter books. Interestingly throughout the process chatbot kept its role fine and always tried to generate answers like J.K. Rowling.      After having this beautiful chat, I wrote a report about this exper...

Reflections on Colaborative Writing Experience

Image
İrem, Naz, and I collaborated to write a film review for the Japanese animated movie Your Name, directed by Makoto Shinkai. We were tasked with writing a 400-word review in collaboration, following 'a clear structure' including background, plot summary, technical aspects and overall evaluation. A common Google Docs page was created and we used it to brainstorm ideas, share tasks, and edit each other's contributions.      We gained a lot from collaborative writing. Most importantly it gave us the chance to see some error we wouldn't have seen otherwise. Feedback have actually lifted some weights on our shoulder because we did not have to try to make it perfect by ourselves. We have just wrote it and improved it to our standards by givin each other feedback. Every one of us was gifted with a unique skill set, whether it was plot analysis or technical aspects like music and cinematography. The diversity in our final assessment contributed t...

The Digital Story Telling Project

Image
For our assignment, my friend Naz and I produced a 2-minute fictional story video. The plot revolved around two princes where one was brave but foolish while the other was smart but cowardly. Their father, the king, ordered them to go defeat a dragon. In the end, they learned some other things.      We began with a joint story writing session. After, we narrated and recorded the audio. Naz took the role of the narrator and I voiced the princes. To improve the cleanliness of our audio, we used  Cleanvoice AI  which is effective in background noise reduction.        With  Storyboard That , we created 34 different scenes which we termed visually as parts to a story. Using audio from  Pixabay , we searched for sound effects and music, especially medieval and fairy tale themed music to add more soul into the video.  Kdenlive  was used to combine the audio recording with sound effects, music, and ...

Creating a Podcast Episode; The Wallet in The Forest

Image
We created a short fictional podcast for this project. The podcast is explicitly titled The Wallet in The Forest. In the story, two characters are followed as they discover a mysterious wallet while walking through the woods, and this seemingly simple object slowly turns into a chilling mystery for them. Eerie tales with unexpected twists as well as memories of exploring quiet forests inspired us. This image was created by ChatGPT   Throughout that entire process, we  have collaborated with my mate upon each individual step, we wrote the entirety of the script, we recorded each bit of dialogue, and we edited all of the audio with ambient forest sound effec ts in order to build atmosphere. The final version of the audio was edited by us through the utilization of CapCut . It’s mainly a video editor. Furthermore, it additionally helped us to thoroughly trim the silences, properly adjust the pacing, and smoothly blend in the sound effects that we have used Pixabay ...
